Female Teachers Caught in Intimate Moment

They both taught Romance languages in the hormonally charged atmosphere of a Brooklyn high school; wags might say that their romp in an otherwise-empty classroom all but went with the territory. The fact that they are both young women gives the story an even hotter temperature as it burns up the blogosphere.

But the school's administrators are taking allegations that a janitor caught teachers Alini Brito, 29, and Cindy Mauro, 33, in flagrante delicto on Nov. 20 while the students were occupied with a talent show with utmost seriousness, according to a Dec. 9 New York Daily News article.

"I can't talk about it, I'm sorry," Robert Colantuoni, the janitor who allegedly caught the pair embroiled in erotic antics and then reported them, told the Daily News.

The woman, both tenured teachers, have not been allowed to resume classroom duties, but according to the husband of Ms. Brito, she has not been told of the allegations against her. "The school district has not informed my wife of these allegations and they are untrue," he told the newspaper.

Students spoke of Mauro as "pretty fun" and said that Brito, while not flirtatious, was accessible. "She dressed like a teenage girl--she'd wear low-cut tops, shorts, three-quarter length jeans. She was kinda sexy," said 18-year-old student Eddie Ramirez of Mauro.

"She usually dresses elegant, looks smart," he said. "She's good-looking. And she was friendly, not flirty, just friendly," an unnamed 16-year-old said of Brito.

The school's administration remained mum, but Education Department spokesperson Margie Feinberg acknowledged that there had been "an incident" and that an investigation is now underway. "The two teachers have been reassigned pending the outcome of [an Education Department] investigation," said Feinberg.

The janitor turned the women in because he mistook them for two students, a Dec. 10 article in the New York Post said. The Post also reported that Mauro, who reportedly had taken on a "punk" look over the summer with a pink hairdo and tattoos, took a hard stance against homophobia in her classroom. "You know how kids are. If someone would say, 'You're so gay,' she would be, like, 'Don't do that, it's not funny,'" a 17-year old student, Marteine Colon, told the Post.

"You might be offending me or you might be offending someone in my family," Mauro is reported to have said to her students.

The comments at right-wing chat site FreeRepublic.com, where gay news items are often discussed and GLBT equality efforts condemned, took on a note of playfulness as "Freepers" posted their views.

Wrote one, "Wish I was a fly on that wall," while another posted, "Awwwwwww hell yeah!" Wrote another, "Now, if I had been the janitor..............."

"Is this an example of tolerating homosexuality as long as it's between two semi-good looking women?" tutted one chat participant.

Another subsequently posted the message, "I believe the question should be, is there a surveillance film which needs to be analyzed?"

In an unrelated development, the New York Daily News said that a third teacher at the school is also under investigation for allegedly having too much contact with a male student--the two reportedly swapped more than 200 text messages.

The Daily News reported that Allison Musacchio "is under investigation for having an inappropriate relationship with a male student, sources said." She teaches social studies. The tabloid newspaper is calling the high school, located in a middle class neighborhood, "Horndog High."
